Well you little Ripper – Australian, Greg Sperring, partnered with Pauline Bishop won Javea Green’s ‘Drawn Aussie Pairs’ Competition held over 2 days on 14th/15th May. They won by an impressive total of 55 points, 6 clear of their nearest rivals Tony Lloyd and Clive Pearl who notched up 49 points to take the second place slot. 20 Teams took part, each playing 3 matches of 8 ends per day. Greg and Pauline were top of the table on day 1, winning all 3 games and amassing a comfortable lead with 33 points. The second day saw them win 2 and lose 1, gaining 22 points which, when added to the previous day’s score, was enough to take them to the top of the leader board. Sponsor, Maria Morawiec, Managing Director of Dragon Insurance, presented the Trophy and Prizes to Greg and Pauline and Prizes to the gallant runners-up. Needless to say, there was much merry banter about an Aussie winning the Aussie Pairs!!! Apart from a little glitch on the first morning, the weather was kind and the whole competition was played in very good spirits by one and all, so thanks are due to Match Secretary, Alan Phillips, for organising a thoroughly enjoyable 2 days of bowling.
