DRAGON DRAWN AUSSIE PIRS 2016

The last two days has seen some highly competitive bowling contested on our “new” green! Following the re-laying of our new base, 48 of our Members arrived not knowing what to expect but were delighted with the way our green bowled. We all know that problems have existed with our green over the last few years and were looking to the future and were not disappointed. Obviously the green played a little slow but we were happy that the peculiarities appear to have been eliminated! The competition involved 4 groups of 6 playing in a “round robin” format and threw up some incredibly close finishes. Group A finished with 2 teams on 39 points with Roy Lees and John Pittaway just edging out Barry Elms and Brenda Burgess by one shot. Group B saw 3 teams on 40 points and the team emerging as winners were Alan Phillips and Daphne Ramage by a 2 shot margin. Group C saw Chris Evans and Keith Beaman triumphant while in Group D, Ritva McAuliffe and Gary Kent were in top spot. In fairness the semi finals were both one sided affairs seeing the pairings of Roy Lees and John Pittaway and Ritva McAuliffe and Gary Kent going through to the Final. The Final, that was exceptionally well supported by our Members, was all square after 4 ends with both teams winning just one shot per end but then John and Roy took a grip of the match and went into the last end with a lead of 8 – 3. For a moment a last end miracle was on the cards as Ritva and Gary held 3 shots, but John put an end to their hopes by drawing shot wood. The Presentation was made by our sponsor Maria of DRAGON INSURANCE and our President Peter Drake. Peter thanked our Members for staying and watching the Final, Maria for her continued support and Jan and Alan Phillips for organising the competition so well. The general consensus was that the format of the event was very enjoyable and it was great to see one of our newer Members, Roy Lees, winning a prestigious event
