A fabulous two day Competition was played in glorious sunshine. A new format was tried, whereby four groups of four played 10 ends against each other on the first day and then the top two teams in each group progressed to the quarter finals of the Spring Triples and the bottom two teams went forward to a “Plate” competition. The first day certainly provided some surprises and some very strong teams failed to qualify for the main event. The second day saw Bring It On, Pat Pittaway, John Pittaway and Dave Gardiner progress to the “Plate” Final where they met and beat Los Amigos, Wendy Symonds, Carol Meare and David Meare by 10 – 5. In the Spring Triples Mustard, Matt Taylor, Jim Fletcher and Dick Baron, were probably the surprise package as they overcame the strong Boomerangs team, Brenda Burgess, Gail Chick and Greg Sperring by 9-6 to progress to the Final. Waiting for them was Last In, Ronnie Greer, Derrick Lutz and Alan Phillips who proudly boasted the only 100% record in the tournament. At the start of the Final Mustard were hot and went into an early lead of 4-1 and then picked up a four to lead 8-3 at the halfway stage of this 10 end match. The next end saw Last In pick up a five to level the scores and two ends later the match looked over as Last In were holding six shots only for Dick Baron to play a wonderful shot and take the end for Mustard! The last two ends were very tight but Last In were able to hang on for a narrow 11-9 victory.
